Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren was born in the Bronx in 1939, to a family of Jewish immigrants from Belarus. In 1967 he created his own label, Ralph Lauren Corporation, choosing a name inspired by a sport that embodied a world of understated elegance and classic style: the polo shirt.

In 1969 he was the first to open a men's boutique inside Bloomingdale's in New York. In 1971 he created the first women's line with a collection of men's cut shirts, reinventing the classic masculine look for women's style. With the women's line also came the polo player logo, which today is everywhere and distinguishes the Ralph Lauren style.
