Murphy & Nye
Murphy & Nye and sailing: a historic bond, rooted at the beginning of the last century, when Jim Murphy and Harry Nye Jr founded their sailmaker specialising in pleasure sails in Chicago - in 1933.
In a short time, the sailmaker became known for its cutting-edge technology, made especially for the scows of the Great Lakes and for the battened sails of the ice boats that speed across the surfaces of the great inland lakes in winter. Lynn Williams - owner of the yacht Elisabeth - was M&N's first customer for large sails, thanks to which he won the prestigious and historic Mackinac Race on Lake Michigan in 1933. Murphy & Nye's involvement in the world of racing intensified year by year, so much so that in 1937 Milton Wegerfurth won the Star World Championship with M&N sails.
